World Singles and Doubles Open Racquetball Championships Blog Post

Working on my last BIG official Championship event this year. Actually, Jim Hiser and I, Joe Williams and Jim Easterling have been working on this event since the last one in 2023. It's really a labor of love to make sure all the details, planning and extra work that goes into hosting a first class event.

Most people just show up, play and want to enjoy every moment in a short window of 4 days! But the preparation to get there is tremendous when you have a good strong team and committee as we do. Nobody can run an event alone, any seasoned event director knows that and will tell you that. I ran over 200 events in 18 years and then a few after that were smaller scale but still need the proper planning and coordinating from start to finish.

I will do my best to document and share this last event for Jim Hiser, and all of the cool things he has planned and how we are making it all happen. I think it's important for people to see more than just the online registration site and a bunch of social media posts TRYING to encourage people to sign up in a timely manner. Shouldn't we be getting emails from players thanking us for all the work and effort we are giving to pull this type of an event off? I wish every player, whether they wanted to or not, would take on the responsibility of hosting a good size event. Just once. Then you can really understand and get a better feel of how crazy and passionate some event directors are to keep doing this year after year, after year.

Finalized this special poster that we have put together that has all of the current members of the Hall of Fame. They will be available at the Championships for $20 each and with over 20+ Hall of Famers confirmed, that would be a great time to get them to sign it.

More to come, especially about the Hall of Fame attendees and how we're needing to find a few more sponsors to pay for the banquet expense to honor these players and their contributions. No profit is being made from this awards ceremony. It's $58 per person, plus a 23% gratuity, and 5% tax. That's about $76 per person just for the food. We have decorations flowers, table card and program printing, awards and some equipment rental. If you're reading this and you would like to really feel good about giving back, this is the perfect time. Send me an email, I'll send you more information. leorvasquez@gmail.com

Time to go and work on the script edits for the MC, Eric Muller. Jim and I have been having rehearsals and fine tuning the ceremony so it will go off smoothly.

Send me an email if you need help registering and make you get your banquet tickets.

Colorado Trip

I am here in beautiful Colorado Springs, CO for a few days. As soon as the plane landed it was snowing and kept on for several hours. There was a nice restaurant/brewery across the street from my hotel downtown. Here is a picture from the window at the restaurant. I'll be here a few more days. I'll post a few more pictures tomorrow.
